THROGGS NECK, N.Y. -- The Washington College sailing team finished 10th of 18 teams at the War Memorial, the MAISA Fall Co-Ed Dinghy Championships, held yesterday and today at New York Maritime.
Senior skipper Ryan Bailey (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) and sophomore crew Karlyn Long (Louisville, Colo./Fairview) placed 10th in A Division. Bailey and Long had three top five divisional in the eight A Division races.
Washington was 12th in B Division. Junior skipper Eric Siegel (Kilmarnock, Va./Christchurch School) sailed with sophomore crew Matt McDermaid (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) for the first six B Division races. Senior skipper Eleanor Conroy (West Dennis, Mass./Tabor Academy) sailed with Siegel as her crew for the final two B Division races. Washington's best B Division race came in race 5B as Siegel and McDermaid finished sixth.
Third-ranked Georgetown won the War Memorial, while 20th-ranked Fordham was second and New York Maritime was third. The top seven finishing teams qualified for the Atlantic Coast Championships. Eight A Division races and six B Division races were completed on Saturday in a blustery north-northeast breeze. Even stronger winds on Sunday limited that day's races to just two B Division races.
The Washington College sailing team will resume its 2014-15 season in the spring.
