Glasser Wins Pair of Individual
Events
GETTYSBURG, PA - Host Gettysburg College topped
visiting Washington College, 132-73, in Centennial Conference
women's swimming action this afternoon in Gettysburg, PA. The
Bullets improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in conference meets with
the win, while the Shorewomen, who got a pair of individual
first-place finishes from junior Rachel Glasser (Silver
Spring, MD/Springbrook), fell to 1-1 and 1-1.
Glasser won the 200 freestyle in a personal-best
time of 1:57.71 and captured the 200 butterfly in 2:10.93. She also
led off the 400 freestyle relay with a 55.75 leg to become the
Shorewomen's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 freestyle.
Senior Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville,
PA/Phoenixville Area) won the 100 freestyle in 55.23 and
was second in the 50 freestyle in 25.56 for the Shorewomen. She
also swam the butterfly leg of the Shorewomen's first-place 400
medley relay team, which won its race in 4:12.50. Senior
Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area)
swam the backstroke leg, sophomore Jenna Moore
(Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) the breaststroke leg, and
sophomore Morgan Phillips (Charlottesville,
VA/Albemarle) the freestyle leg.
Freshman Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NJ/Northern
Valley-Demarest) placed second in the 1000 freestyle in
11:09.76 to become the Shorewomen's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in
that event.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with
their home opener, a 6:00 p.m. home meet against Salisbury.
