Washington College Sports Performance:

Washington College Sports Performance seeks to improve the physical and mental qualities of its student athletes to create successful, leaders, mentors, role models, and people both on and off the field.

Washington College Sports Performance seeks to accomplish these goals through systematic, research based programming done by Sports Performance Coaches at Washington College. The Sports Performance staff works to ensure that sessions are created and structured in a way that athletes can improve their athletic capabilities each time they enter the weight room. Athletes are pushed to enhance strength, speed, power, stability, agility and quickness through the programs created by experienced professionals, in turn leading to more successful performances and accolades on the field.

Student-athletes are also taught to attack each lift with a sense of urgency, commitment, and intensity and are taught to rise up others around them to become better versions of themselves both in and out of the weight room. Sports Performance Coaches at Washington College take a holistic view in how efforts in the weight room to become better athletes and leaders can be taken beyond the sport to the next stages of life. The coaches at Washington College hope that by providing athletes the tools both physically and mentally to rise above challenges it can better prepare them to be successful in the next stages of life following college and athletics.

Training Principals
Long Term Development:
Athlete development is not rushed and is looked over as a properly planned our progression over the four-year tenure an athletes competes in their sport. Assessing where the athlete enters the program and understanding that perfection immediately is not the answer, but constant consistent progress leads to improvement!

Injury Reduction:
Athletes need to be ready and available in order to perform to their abilities and contribute to the success of the program. Coaches make sure that they do what they can off the field to help stabilize and strengthen muscles, joints, and movements to help reduce the chance of injuries occurring. Coaches look at the specific scenarios athletes are placed in in their respective sports and try and provide stability and strength to those scenarios through the use of exercises in the weight room.

Strength and Speed:
Strength in lifting at high intensities and the ability to produce force rapidly are core elements in the program, no one quality is more important than the others and in order to be bigger, faster, stronger the athlete must be bigger, faster, and stronger through heavy strength work, and periodized speed training leading to successful performances on the field by the individual contributing to successful programs.
