Glasser Wins Three Individual
Events
COLLEGEVILLE, PA - Junior Rachel Glasser
(Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) won three individual
events as visiting Washington College defeated host Ursinus
College, 131-74, in Centennial Conference women's swimming this
afternoon in Collegeville, PA. The Shorewomen improved to 7-2
overall and 3-2 in conference meets with the win, while the Bears
fell to 8-3 and 3-3 with the los. The win was Washington's 17th in
a row over Ursinus.
Glasser won the 1000 freestyle in a pool-record
10:35.49, the 100 butterfly in 59.37, and the 500 freestyle in
5:15.37. Senior Kathy Gerhart (Phoenixville,
PA/Phoenixville Area) and sophomore Jenna Moore
(Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) each won two
individual events as Gerhart took the 200 individual medley in
2:19.39 and the 100 freestyle in 56.00, while Moore won the 50
freestyle in 25.73 and the 100 breaststroke in a Washington College
season-best time of 1:09.10.
Sophomore Mary Stroman (Bala Cynwyd,
PA/Friends Central) posted a first-place finish in the 200
freestyle in 2:03.92, while sophomore Morgan Phillips
(Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) won the 100 backstroke in
1:05.21. Senior Amy Smith (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville
Area), Moore, Gerhart, and Stroman won the 200 medley
relay in 1:55.30.
Freshman Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NJ/Northern
Valley-Demarest) was second in the 1000 freestyle in
11:41.44 for the Shorewomen, while freshman Alix Batesko
(Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) placed second in the
100 butterfly in 1:06.29
The Shorewomen return to action one week from today
with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at McDaniel.
