Shorewomen Drop Opener to Bullets, 162.5-89.5

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College women's swim team opened its 2012-13 season this afternoon with a 162.5-89.5 loss to visiting Gettysburg College in a Centennial Conference dual meet inside Casey Swim Center. The Bullets (3-0, 1-0 Centennial) won 10 of the meet's first 12 events before entering the final two as exhibitions only.

Junior Ellie Miskiel (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) led the way for the Shorewomen in the loss, winning the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.63.  She also received the first-place points in the 200 individual medley by posting the second-fastest time in the race at 2:25.58 and placed second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.23.

Junior Carly Ogren (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) won the 100 freestyle for the Shorewomen in 56.85 and placed second in the 200 freestyle in 2:04.92. Senior Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest) was second in the 200 butterfly in 2:25.67 and tied for second in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.68.

Ogren, Sykes, sophomore Alicia Howard (Wilmington, DE/Charter School of Wilmington), and sophomore Ashley Maurizi (Reamstown, PA/Cocalico) received the first-place points in the 200 freestyle after finishing the race in 1:47.22, behind a pair of Gettysburg teams. 

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. non-conference meet at Salisbury.
