Bullets Spoil Shorewomen's Season Opener, 140-65

Maxwell Wins Two Individual Events in Collegiate Debut

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Washington College women's swim team dropped its season opener, 140-65, at Centennial Conference rival Gettysburg this afternoon in Gettysburg, Pa. The Bullets, who improved to 3-0 overall by winning their first conference meet of the season, won seven of the 11 events. Freshman Ellen Maxwell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) had an impressive collegiate debut in the loss for the Shorewomen, winning two individual events.

Maxwell won the 1000 freestyle in 11:08.34 to become the Shorwomen's ninth-fastest swimmer ever in the event and captured the 500 freestyle in 5:27.15. 

Seniors Ellie Miskiel (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and Carly Ogren (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) each recorded one individual first-place and one individual second-place finish for the Shorewomen. Miskiel won the 200 breaststroke in 2:32.17 and was second in the 50 freestyle in 25.60, while Ogren won the 200 freestyle in 2:03.86 and placed second in the 100 freestyle in 56.52. 

Freshman Angelina Tomasura (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) added a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly in 2:20.84 for Washington. 

The Shorewomen open their home schedule Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. non-conference meet against Eastern Shore rival Salisbury.
