Shoremen Glide Past Seahawks, 129-74

Hochstein Breaks Pool Record in 400 Individual Medley

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The Washington College men's swim team posted the top time in 10 of 11 events en route to a 129-74 non-conference win over visiting St. Mary's College of Maryland this afternoon inside Casey Swim Center. The Shoremen improved to 3-1 with the win, while the Seahawks dropped to 4-6 with the loss.

Freshman Pat Elliott (Media, Pa./Salesianum School [Del.]) and sophomore Brent Longenecker (Maytown, Pa./Donegal) each won two individual events for the Shoremen. Elliott won the 1000 freestyle in 10:14.36 to become the Shoremen's fourth-fastest swimmer ever in that event and took the 100 backstroke in 55.21. Longenecker finished first in the 100 freestyle in 49.28 and in the 200 freestyle in 1:48.07. His time in the 200 freestyle made him the Shoremen's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in that event.

Freshman Brent Hochstein (Townsend, Del./Salesianum School) won the 400 individual medley in a pool-record time of 4:15.74 to become the Shoremen's fitth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. He was also second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.47 to become their 10th-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Sophomore Lucas Morgan (Allendale, N.J../Northern Highlands Regional) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.36 and was second in the 400 individual medley in 4:23.27. Junior Greg Lee (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) won the 100 butterfly in 53.98, while junior Austin Yocum (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) captured the 500 freestyle in 4:59.09. 

The Shoremen opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay as sophomore Charles Logan (Durham, N.C./Riverside), sophomore Eric Burcin (Bethlehem, Pa./Lebanon Valley), Lee, and Yocum finished in 1:39.00. Yocum, Lee, sophomore DJ Bradshaw (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall), and Longenecker posted the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay, completing the race in 1:29.46 as an exhibition entry.

Logan added a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 56.26. 

The Shoremen return to action December 6th and 7th at the Randolph-Macon Invitational.
