Shorewomen Post 27th Consecutive Win Over Eastern Shore Rivals
CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The host Washington College women's swim team picked up its 27th consecutive win over Eastern Shore rival Salisbury University tonight with a 127-78 non-conference victory over the Sea Gulls inside Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen (1-1) got two individual first-place finishes each from from senior Carly Ogren (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) and freshman Ellen Maxwell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) in the win.
Ogren won the 50 freestyle in 26.13 and the 100 freestyle in 56.71. She also swam the freestyle leg of the winning 200 medley relay, joining freshman Jacquelyn Creitz (Schencksville, Pa./Parkland), senior Ellie Miskiel (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard), and freshman Angelina Tomasura (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) to post a winning time of 1:56.19.
Maxwell won the 1000 freestyle in 11:20.15 and the 500 freestyle in 5:32.17. She was also second in the 200 individual medley in 2:16.17, becoming the Shorewomen's eigth-fastest swimmer ever in that event.
Miskiel, Tomasura, and junior Alicia Howard (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) each won one individual event. Miskiel won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.91 and was second in the 200 freestyle in 1:59.67 to become the Shorewomen's eighth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Tomasura won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.13 to become Washington's ninth-fastest swimmer ever in that event and placed second in the 500 freestyle in 5:43.40. Howard captured the 100 backstroke in 1:03.21. Howard, Creitz, sophomore Kelsey McGrellis (Hockessin, Del./A.I. DuPont), and freshman Megan Obarowski (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:49.07.
Creitz added a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.79, while sophomore Julianna Fritzinger (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion Area) took second in the 1000 freestyle in 11:40.34.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Bryn Mawr.
