Shoremen Win Nine of 11 Events
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- Visiting Washington College improved to 3-1 on the season by winning nine of 11 events in a 138-66 non-conference men's swimming win over host St. Mary's College of Maryland tonight. The Seahawks slipped to 3-6 with the loss.
Junior Lucas Morgan (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) won a pair of individual events, taking the 400 individual medley in 4:15.72 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.30. He also swam the breaststroke leg of the winning 200 medley relay, joining junior Charles Logan (Durham, N.C./Riverside), senior Greg Lee (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial), and junior Brent Longenecker (Maytown, Pa./Donegal) to capture first place in 1:38.93.
The Shoremen also won the 200 freestyle relay as Lee, Longenecker, freshman Cody Weiler (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area), and senior Austin Yocum (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) finished in 1:30.17.
Freshman Kevin Mackenzie (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College H.S. [D.C.]) won one individuals event as was second in two others, taking the 100 freestyle in 48.49 and placing second in the 50 freestyle in 22.23 and in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.55. Logan, Yocum, Weiler, and sophomore Pat Elliott (Media, Pa./Salesianum School [Del.]) each had one individual first and one individual second place finish. Logan won the 100 backstroke in 54.63 and was second in the 200 freestyle in 1:50.42. Yocum won the 100 butterfly in 54.40 and was second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:37.47. Weiler won the 50 freestyle in 22.14 and was second in the 100 backstroke in 56.76. Elliott won the 200 freestyle in 1:49.46 and placed second in the 500 freestyle in a Washington College season-best 4:56.07.
Sophomore Brent Hochstein (Towsend, Del./Salesianum School) turned in a second-place finish in the 400 individual medley in 4:20.65.
The Shoremen return to action December 5th and 6th at the Randolph-Macon Invitational.
