Maxwell Becomes Shorewomen's Sixth-Fastest Ever in 1000 Free in Loss

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- Host St. Mary's College of Maryland won seven of 11 events en route to a 113-92 non-conference women's swimming win over visiting Washington College tonight. The Seahawks improved to 8-1 with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 1-3 with the loss. 

The Shorewomen opened the meet strong, winning the first two events. Freshman Joelle Williamson (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor), freshman Tricia Liller (Alexandria, Va./Annandale), freshman Katie Gorman (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park), and senior Alicia Howard (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) won the 200 medley relay in 1:56.32. Sophomore Ellen Maxwell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) then won the 1000 freestyle in a Shorewomen season-best 11:03.52 to become their sixth-fastest swimmer ever in the event. 

Later in the meet, freshman Jennifer Clune (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) won the 100 freestyle in a WC season-best 55.87 and Williamson took the 100 backstroke in a WC season-best 1:01.35 to improve upon her own time as the Shorewomen's fourth-fastest swimmer ever in the event. Junior Julianna Fritzinger (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion Area) added a second-place finish in the 400 individual medley in 5:00.03, while Liller was second in the 100 breaststroke in a WC season-best 1:11.21 to become the Shorewomen's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in the event. 

The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Bryn Mawr.
