Shorewomen Trump Blue Jays, 129-71

Maxwell Wins Two Individual Events

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Sophomore Ellen Maxwell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) won a pair of individual events as host Washington College cruised by visiting Elizabethtown, 129-71, in non-conference women's swimming this afternoon inside Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen improved to 4-3 on the year with the win, while the Blue Jays dropped to 3-4 with the loss.

Maxwell won both the 200 freestyle (2:01.20) and the 500 freestyle (5:31.72). Senior Alicia Howard (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) won the 50 freestyle in 26.70 and was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:47.22, while freshman Katie Gorman (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) won the 100 freestyle in 56.10 and was second in the 200 freestyle in 2:03.38. Freshman Jennifer Clune (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) won the 200 individual medley (2:22.38), sophomore Angelina Tomasura (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) took the 100 butterfly (1:06.28), and sophomore Jackie Creitz (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) won the 100 backstroke in 1:06.67. 

The Shorewomen opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay as Howard, Clune, sophomore Megan Obarowski (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South), and freshman Joelle Williamson (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) won in 1:59.80. Maxwell, Gorman, freshman Ali Sanders (Dover, Del./Milford), and Williamson posted the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay, finishing in 1:47.01 as an exhibition entrant.

Freshman Mackenzie Gaze (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) added a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle in 11:34.49, Obarowski was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:24.15, freshman Emilie Farrington (Neptune, N.J./Monmouth County Academy) took second in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.96, and Williamson placed second in the 100 freestyle in 56.96. Freshman Tricia Liller (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) had there second-fastest time in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.40) while swimming as an exhibition entrant.

The Shorewomen return to action one week from today with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Dickinson.
