Portmann Impressive for Shorewomen in Collegiate Debut
CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Visiting Franklin & Marshall College defeated host Washington College, 155.5-87.5, in a Centennial Conference women's swimming dual meet this afternoon inside Casey Swim Center. The meet served as the season opener for both schools. Freshman Julia Portmann (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) was impressive in her collegiate debut for the Shorewomen.

How It Happened
- Portmann won the 1000 freestyle for the Shorewomen, becoming the team's sixth-fastest swimmer ever with her time of 10:54.07. She also won the 100 butterfly in 1:03.01 and was second in the 200 butterfly in 2:18.23. She led off the winning 200 freestyle relay, joining Anna Schmittle, Katie Gorman, and Jenni Clune for the first-place time of 1:42.49.
- Clune tied for first place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.89 and was second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.41. Gorman won the 100 freestyle in 56.35 and took second in the 50 freestyle in 25.64.
- Ellen Maxwell placed second in two events for the Shorewomen, the 100 backstroke in 1:02.92 and the 200 individual medley in 2:18.77.
