Despite Loss, Shorewomen Place First in 10 of Meet's 14 Events
CHESTERTOWN, Md. — For the second time in as many meets this season, the Washington College women's swim team won more than half of a dual meet's events but came up six points short of a victory. Today, the Shorewomen fell to visiting Gettysburg, 134-128, inside Casey Swim Center, despite winning 10 of the meet's 14 events.

Shorewomen Highlights
- Julia Portmann won three individual events for the Shorewomen and led off the winning 400 freestyle relay. She won the 200 freestyle (2:00.07), 500 freestyle (5:23.95), and 1000 freestyle (11:11.59). In the 400 freestyle relay, she teamed with Lindsay Wiecki, Mackenzie Gaze, and Katie Gorman to win in 3:44.98.
- Gorman and Ellen Maxwell each won two individual events. Gorman captured the 50 freestyle (25.37) and 100 freestyle (55.33), while Maxwell won the 100 backstroke (1:01.42) and 200 backstroke (2:14.70).
- Jenni Clune won the 200 individual medley in 2:17.21 and was second in both the 100 breaststroke (1:09.43) and 200 breaststroke (2:34.50).
- Wiecki captured the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:01.47.
Notes
- The Shorewomen (0-2, 0-2 Centennial) opened their season last Saturday by winning nine of 14 events at Franklin & Marshall, but also lost that meet by a narrow 134-128 final.
- The six-point margin against the Bullets represents the Shorewomen's closest finish ever in 24 all-time meetings with Gettysburg, other than their lone win in the series - 103-102 victory to open the 2001-02 season. Just last season, Gettysburg defeated Washington by a 181-81 margin, marking a 47-point improvement for the Shorewomen in this year's result.
- Gettysburg improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in conference meets with today's win.
