Shorewomen Take First Place in Nine Events
CHESTERTOWN, Md. — The host Washington College women's swim team defeated visiting Franklin & Marshall, 134-128, in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams today inside Casey Swim Center. It was the Shorewomen's first win over the Diplomats since a 128-77 victory in 2007.

Shorewomen Highlights
- Jenni Clune was a part of four first-place finishes for the Shorewomen. She won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.39, the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.91, and the 100 individual medley in 1:03.39. She also swam the anchor leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay, which finished in 1:43.09 to give the Shorewomen the meet victory in the final event. Anna Schmittle, Katie Gorman, and Emma Silber joined Clune on that relay team.
- Julia Portmann won three events for the Shorewomen, starting off by winning the 1000 freestyle in seven-tenths of a second in 11:04.00. She also won the 200 freestyle in 2:01.37 and the 500 freestyle in 5:24.08.
- Gorman won the 50 freestyle in 25.43 and the 100 freestyle in 55.78. She was second to Portmann in the 200 freestyle in 2:01.78.
- Alex Searles added a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke in 2:37.17, while Lindsay Wiecki was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.22.
Notes
- Today marked the first time since 1995 that both the Washington College men's and women's swim teams defeated Franklin & Marshall. The Shoremen won their side of the meet, 135-127. This is only the third time in school history the WC swim teams have achieved the feat; the other time was in 1994.
- Clune was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Swimmer of the Meet.
- The Shorewomen improved to 1-1 overall with the win, while the Diplomats fell to 1-2.
