Gettysburg, PA – The Washington College women's swimming team opened the 2021-22 season with a quad meet against Gettysburg, Dickinson and Bryn Mawr on Saturday afternoon at Gettysburg. The Shorewomen placed 3rd overall with a tight battle between Gettysburg and Dickinson, beating Bryn Mawr.
There were several outstanding performers throughout the meet. Sophomore Emma Schultz won the 500 freestyle in epic fashion, out-touching five other swimmers for the victory. Senior co-captain Alexa Luecke won the 200 individual medley in the first heat and freshman Lilly Hartmann snagged third-place. Junior Kristina Curley took third overall in the 1,000 freestyle. Freshman Kylee Smith put herself into Washington College Swimming history by becoming the eighth fastest 100 butterflier in her debut college meet. She won the overall event and also place third in the 200 free. Senior Anna Hall placed second overall in the 100 butterfly just behind Smith. Sophomore Laurel Krause tied for third in the 50 freestyle. Finally, the 400 relay team of Krause, freshman Emily Iampieri, Smith and Luecke placed second overall to conclude an amazing first meet.
