Chestertown, Md – The Washington College women's swimming team put up a strong fight but were defeated by the No. 16 ranked Swarthmore Garnet, 122.5-82.5, in a Centennial Conference dual meet on Saturday afternoon at the Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen are now 1-3 (1-3 C.C.) on the season while the Garnet improve to 4-0 (4-0 C.C.)
Senior co-captain Teresa Draves won two individual events, including the 100 individual medley and the 400 individual medley. Her time of 1:03.46 in the 100 was the second-fastest time in school history and she clocked in at 4:52.89 in the 400.
Freshman Emily Iampieri won the 100 freestyle while turning in the tenth-best time in school history at 54.17. She also placed third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:35.84.
Freshman Kylee Smith captured the 200 butterfly after touching the wall in 2:18.78.
Senior co-captain Alexa Luecke was third in the 50 freestyle (25.98) as well as the 200 breaststroke (2:37.88). Luecke's time in the 100 individual medley (1:04.59) was the third-fastest time in school history.
Sophomore Laurel Krause and junior Kristina Curley placed second and third respectively in the 200 freestyle with times of 2:02.16 and 2:04.93.
The 200 freestyle relay place second after clocking a time of 1:41.52. Krause, sophomore Anna Miller, Iampieri and Smith led the charge. They were barely outtouched by .03 seconds.
Senior Anna Hall, freshman Lilly Hartmann and junior Alex May all broke into Washington's top-ten in the 100 individual medley. Hall had the fourth-fastest (1:04.98), Hartmann the fifth and May the sixth (1:07.52).
The Shorewomen will host Salisbury next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
