Shorewomen Place Sixth at 2023 Centennial Conference Championships

Smith Finishes Fifth in the 200 Butterfly; Paules Enters Programs Top 10 in Four Different Events

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Washington College women's swim team placed sixth out of eight teams at the 2023 Centennial Conference Swimming Championships, hosted by Gettysburg held Thursday night through Sunday evening at Bullets Pool.  Sophomore Kylee Smith (Avon, Colo./Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy) had the team's top finish, a fifth-place finish in the 200 butterfly.

Shorewomen Top Individual Performers
- Smith earned a time of 2:10.30 in the 200 butterfly to place fifth after a 2:09.32 in the preliminary round.  Her time in the preliminaries moves her up to third all-time at Washington.  She had a 10th place finish in the 100 butterfly (58.19) and is now the fifth fastest swimmer at WC in the event.
- Lauren Paules became seventh all-time in the in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:13.01 in the preliminary round and in the final, she finished eighth overall (5:14.86).  She placed 12th in the 200 freestyle (1:58.36) after a preliminary time of 1:58.24, which is 10th all-time at Washington.  Paules concluded her conference championships with a time of 18:15.39 in the 1650 freestyle, good for ninth all-time at Washington, and her time of 10:57.88 through 1000 yards of the event qualifies her for seventh all-time in the 1000 freestyle.
- Emily Iampieri rose four spots in the 50 freestyle to third fastest swimmer in program history (24.48) in the preliminary round.  In the final later in the day, she finished 12th (24.61).  In the 200 freestyle, she was ninth with a time of 1:56.94, which was a personal best time, and improves on her seventh best time at Washington by .02 of a second.  In the 100 freestyle, she placed seventh (53.06), which is third in the history of the team.
- Anna Miller improved two spots in the program's Top 10 in the 50 freestyle to eighth fastest (24.81).  In the 100 breaststroke, Miller recorded a 16th place finish (1:13.40) after swimming a 1:12.69 in the preliminary round.
- Lilly Hartmann finished 11th in the 200 backstroke (2:11.71) and slides up one spot to second all-time at WC in the event.
- Ayana Davis placed 13th in the 100 butterfly (1:00.47) and improved on her ninth place time by .32 of a second in the preliminary round (1:00.37).  In the 200 butterfly, she was 14th in 2:21.19.
- Emma Schultz was 11th in the 200 freestyle (1:57.22) and is now ninth in program history in the event.
- Kristina Curley placed 12th in the 1650 freestyle (18:41.65) and 16th in the 200 freestyle (1:59.63).
- Alex May landed 16th in the 200 backstroke (2:17.71) after swimming a 2:16.75 in the preliminary round.
- Kennedy Jones recorded a time of 54.43 in the 100 freestyle which was good for 16th place.
- Courtney Poetsch was 16th in the 200 butterfly (2:23.55).

Shorewomen Top Relays
- The quartet of Hartmann, Miller, Smith and Jones placed fifth in the 200 medley relay with a mark of 1:51.64.
- The foursome of Smith, Schultz, Paules and Iampieri finished fifth in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:51:71.
- Miller, Schultz, Paules and Iampieri led the Shorewomen to a fifth place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.82).
- Smith, Schultz, Jones and Iampieri garnered a fifth place result in the 400 freestyle relay (3:34.86). 
- In the 400 medley relay, Hartmann, Miller, Smith and Iampieri finished sixth (4:04.37).

Notes
- #15 Swarthmore won the event with 984 points followed by host Gettysburg who notched 743 points.  Third place was Ursinus who had 437 points and Franklin & Marshall placed fourth with 423 points.  Five through eight respectively were Dickinson (341 points), Washington (279), Bryn Mawr (182) and McDaniel (146).
- The championships marked the final competition for Curley and May, the team's two seniors.
