Scots Edge Shorewomen, 5-4

Namunyola Wins in Both Singles and Doubles

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The College of Wooster edged Washington College, 5-4, in the Shorewomen's second and final match on their spring break trip on Thursday afternoon at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center in non-conference women's tennis action.

Doubles
- The Scots captured two of three in doubles to lead 2-1.  In second doubles, Wooster's Charitha Patlolla and Katie Materick picked up an 8-2 win over Washington's tandem of Eva Kading and Soleil Namunyola.  The Shorewomen would even it at 1-1 as María Cristina Diaz Nazario and Bin Nguyen captured an 8-3 win over Abby Williams and Abby Kushner Benson.  In top doubles, the Fighting Scots' Janaki Jagannathan and Otilia Oita prevailed 8-5 over Piper Sartison and Irene Meng

Singles
- Namunyola won the first singles match to finish at No. 5 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Williams.
- Meng put the Shorewomen ahead 3-2 as she swept Oita, 6-3, 6-4, at the top spot.
- Patlolla tied the match at 3-3 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Kading at third singles.
- Materick gave Wooster a 4-3 edge as she rallied from a 6-3 loss in the first set to Ruppert at No. 6 to win the next two sets, 6-1 and 1-0 (10-3).
- Jagannathan secured the win for the Scots as she topped Sartison, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3, at No. 2.
- Bin Nguyen gave Washington its fourth point of the day in downing Kim Nguyen, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) at the fourth singles.

Notes
- The Shorewomen are 2-5 on the season, while the Scots are 7-2.
- Washington and Wooster were meeting for the first time in women's tennis today.

"This was a great college match and a great match for us to go through.  It's upsetting to lose of course, but we left it all out there and Wooster was just the better team today.  A few points here and there could have easily changed the outcome today.  What a fantastic learning experience for us, one that will help us in conference play down the road!"
