Shoremen Take Care of Bears, 9-0

Washington Wins All but One Set in Sweep of Ursinus

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College won all but one set on its way to a 9-0 win over visiting Ursinus on Wednesday afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center in a Centennial Conference men's tennis match.

Doubles
- The Shoremen swept doubles to lead 3-0.  In the first doubles match to finish, the team of Christian Gruyon and Ryohei Kawai topped the Bears' duo of Noah Mandel and Andrei Bogdan at third, 8-0.  In the second match to conclude, Karl Hoegstedt and Andre-Remi Jakobi, ranked sixth in the Atlantic South Region, bested Lars Jespersen and Will Oberholtzer, 8-2 at No. 1.  Second doubles completed the sweep as as Jack Fanshawe and Landon Strober downed Darby Rogers and Ethan Yu, 8-3, at second. 
Singles
- Hoegstedt, ranked seventh in the region, gave Washington a 4-0 advantage with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jespersen at the top spot.
- Brady Burns clinched the win for the Shoremen at No. 6 as he won 6-0, 6-2 over Mandel.
- Kawai was the next to win his match as he got the better of Bogdan, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5.
- Gruyon took care of Rogers at No. 4, 6-3, 6-1, that made it 7-0.
- Strober beat Rogers, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2 in the second to last match to finish.
- Aaradith Ravichandran topped Yu, 6-3, in the first set before falling to Yu, 6-4, in the second set.  Ravichandran would win the third set in a tiebreak, 10-5, to complete the sweep.

Notes
- Washington, ranked 11th in the Atlantic South Region, improves to 4-6 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial, while the Bears drop to 11-5 and 2-4 respectively.
