11/25/2024 8:30:00 AM

Freshmen women's swimmers Brooke Bailey (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal Academy) and Julia Banker (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett), and senior women's basketball player Karry Kelliher (Severna Park, Md./St. Mary's) share this week's Shorewoman of the Week honor. Bailey and Banker set program records and Kelliher tied a program record this past week.

Bailey, who scored points in three individual events, etched her name into the top spot as the Shorewomen's fastest swimmer in the 200-yard backstroke in addition to entering the program's top 10 for fastest swimmers in two other categories. She took 15th in the 200 backstroke on Sunday, touching the pad in 2:14.52, but it was her preliminary time of 2:09.98 that placed her in the top spot at WC in the event. The freshman was 15th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.88, but her preliminary time of 59.66 is good for second all-time at WC. She captured 16th in the 400 individual medley on Saturday with a time of 4:50.95, but her preliminary time of 4:43.22 is good for fifth fastest in team history. In the relays, she was part of four scoring relays. On Friday night, the 200-yard freestyle relay foursome of Kylee Smith, Kenzie Gorman, Lauren Paules and Bailey finished 13th (1:40.03). On Saturday evening, the 800 freestyle relay foursome of Bailey, Paules, Banker and Smith were eighth with a time of 7:58.74 and the 200 medley relay team of Bailey, Anna Burrowes, Smith and Gorman placed 16th with a time of 1:51.18. On Sunday night in the 400 freestyle relay, placing 13th was the quartet of Bailey, Gorman, Paules and Smith (3:38.34).

Banker became Washington's all-time fastest swimmer in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:38.69 on Saturday, which was good for sixth overall as she scored in three individual events. On Sunday in the 200 backstroke, she landed 19th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.63 and that's good for third fastest in team history.  She also placed 20th in the 200 individual medley on Friday with a time of 2:12.83. The freshman helped the Shorewomen score points on Saturday evening as part of the 800 freestyle relay team of Bailey, Paules, Banker and Smith that were eighth with a time of 7:58.74 swimming the third leg.

Kelliher tied the program record for assists in game with 12 in a 77-63 win at Penn State Abington on Tuesday night, becoming the fourth different player to hand out a dozen helpers as it was the fifth time it happened in team history. Kelliher also added 10 points for her second career double-double. The senior handed out her 12th helper with 1:01 to go in the game on a layup by Kaitlyn Boggs. It was the first time a Washington player passed out 12 assists in a game in 13 years. Versus Gallaudet on Saturday in a 61-49 victory, Kelliher tallied game-bests of seven assists and three blocks to go along with three steals.

This is Kelliher's fourth career Shorewoman of the Week honor and the first career Shorewoman of the Week honor for both Bailey and Banker.
