FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Washington College picked up its first victory of the season by edging Averett, 4-3, on Sunday morning in a non-conference men's tennis match at the Tennis Center hosted by Mary Washington.

Doubles
- The two teams played for a single point in doubles which Averett earned by winning two of the three flights. Washington's
Karl Hoegstedt and
Jorge Urgal Zuleta won at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, over Averett's
Alex Donnelly and
Alex Rudy. The Cougars won the other two doubles matches, 6-3, at No. 3 by
Prabjeet Chandhok and
Kazuki Fukushima over
Kohl Perkins and
Tichi Chialva and 6-4 at second doubles by
Jaeden Mukkaladyil and
Martin Guyot over
Ryohei Kawai and
Aaradith Ravichandran.
Singles
- The Shoremen won four of six singles to overcome the loss in doubles for the victory. Hoegstedt won 6-3, 6-1 at the top flight over Mukkaladyil.
- Chialva
gained victory at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 7-6(4), in the second match to finish over Guyot.
- Ravichandran won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2 singles versus Donnelly to give WC a 3-1 edge.
- Fukushima won the next singles contest to finish for Averett at No. 6 over
Johannes Ludwigstorff, 6-3, 6-4.
- Perkins secured the win for the Shoremen at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-4, win against Rudy.
- The Cougars got the victory at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, by Chandhok against Urgal Zuleta.
Notes
- The Shoremen are 1-1 on the season, while the Cougars drop to 0-3.
- It was the first meeting between Washington and Averett since 2012.
