Golden Piper! – Sophomore Scores Walk-Off Goal in Shorewomen’s 14-13 OT Win over Mustangs

Laubach Hands Out Career-High Five Assists

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Sophomore attacker Piper Evans (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) scored the golden goal 1:17 into overtime to give visiting Washington College a 14-13 extra session win over host Stevenson on Saturday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.  The Shorewomen are now 3-0 on the season, while the Mustangs drop to 0-3.

How It Happened
- Washington jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a goal by Ashley Devlin with Mia Salvatierra netting the assist with 5:37 left in the first quarter.  Salvatierra scored the team's first two goals with both being assisted by Abby Laubach.
- The Mustangs got the last two scores of the first to cut the lead to 3-2 after one.  Isabelle VanEmburgh scored with 2:06 to go in the quarter from Kara Yarusso.
- Stevenson would tie it at 3-3 3:26 into the second quarter on a Erin Steinberg goal from Bailey Krahl.
- The Shorewomen would tally the next two to take a 5-3 lead with 8:21 to go in the second on a free position score by Anna Wilson.
- Yarusso capped a 3-0 run with the last two goals to gain a 6-5 lead with 3:23 left in the second.
- Devlin would tie it 6-6 on a free position with 2:09 remaining in the second and that would the halftime score.
- In the third quarter, Washington scored the first three and four of the opening five goals to take a 10-7 lead with 4:17 left on a Tobin Chambers goal from Devlin.
- Sophia Murray got one back for Stevenson with 13 ticks left to make it a 10-8 Washington lead heading into the fourth.
- Steinberg would tie the game once again at 10-10 with 10:35 to go in the game.
- Tied at 12-12, Chambers would give the Shorewomen the lead yet again, 13-12, with exactly three minutes to go.
- The lead would hold until Yarusso scored her third of the game with 50 seconds left to even it at 13-13.
- WC would win the ensuing draw and had a chance to win it in regulation with 25 ticks left on a free position chance by Salvatierra, but the shot went high and the Mustangs were able to run out the clock.
- In overtime, Laubach won the draw control and eventually the ball would wind up in the stick of Evans.  From the left side, Evans was able to get around several defenders and got to five yards away from the goal straight away and put in the walk-off score.

For The Shorewomen (3-0)
- Scoring: Devlin (three goals and two assists), Laubach (career-high and game-best five assists), Salvatierra (three goals and assist), Chambers (three goals), Wilson (two scores)
- In Goal: McKenna Seashole (61:17, 12 saves, 13 goals allowed)
- Laubach and MaryCate Anson (team-high five draw controls), Devlin and Seashole (three ground balls), Madison Maguire (two caused turnovers)
- The Shorewomen won 17 of the game's 31 draw controls and held a 39-30 edge in shots.
- WC went 13-for-14 in clears, went 3-for-14 in free position shots and 14 ground balls.

For Stevenson (0-3)
- Scoring: Yarusso (three goals and one assist), Murray (three goals), Steinberg and VanEmburgh (two goals and helper)
- In Goal: Regan Tolbert (61:17, 16 saves, 14 goals allowed)
- Yarusso (six draw controls to lead all players), Murray and Tolbert (four ground balls), Steinberg and Hailey Johnson (three draws)
- The Mustangs went 16-for-20 in clears and had one fewer turnover than WC, 13-12.
- Stevenson went 2-for-4 in free position chances and totaled 18 ground balls.

Notes
- Washington is now 11-4 all-time against Stevenson with two overtime victories.  The other extra session win came in 2018, 10-9, on a goal by Emily Pantazes '19 from twin sister Alison Pantazes '19 just 55 seconds into overtime.
