Shoremen Capture Spring Opener Against In-State Gophers, 6-1

Isiker Secures Victory at Three Singles

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College won its first match of the spring portion of its schedule over visiting and fellow Maryland institution Goucher, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's tennis match inside the Johnson Fitness Center.

Doubles
- The Shoremen earned the point in doubles by winning two of the three matches.  Third doubles concluded first with Demir Isiker and Tichi Chialva taking home a 6-2 victory.  Goucher would tie doubles at the top flight in a 7-5 win over Sihoo Kim and Jorge Urgal Zuleta to have second doubles determine who would earn the point.  The Shoremen's tandem of Aaradith Ravichandran and Oskar Wroblewski downed the Gophers duo at second doubles, 6-4, to give WC the first point of the match. 

Singles
- Ravichandran got the Shoremen a 2-0 lead by winning at second singles, 6-1, 6-2.
- Kim emerged victorious in first singles for the home side in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1.
- Goucher stayed alive with a win at fourth singles with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-0 win over Johannes Ludwigstorff at No. 4.
- Isiker clinched the win for WC in a comeback win at third singles as the freshman fell in the first set 4-6 before winning the last two, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
- Wroblewski made it 5-1 at fifth singles in a 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 victory.
- Chialva capped the singles portion of the match with a three-set win at No. 6, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8).

Notes
- The Shoremen are 1-0 on the season, while the Gophers drop to 1-2.
- It was the first meeting between Washington and Goucher since March 2019.
