Shorewomen Outpace Marywood in Historic Opening Day Victory 24-7

Salvatierra and Chambers Each Score Six Goals

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Washington College Women's Lacrosse Team outdueled the Marywood Pacers with a program record tying 24 points. This was the first all time matchup between the two programs.

How it Happened: 

  • The Shorewomen scored three goals in less than a minute to start the afternoon. Mia Salvatierra scored in the first 18 seconds off a pass from Anna Wilson. Elisabeth Braswell would then take the next draw control to the back of the net. Salvatierra would put the third goal away just 43 seconds into the game to put her squad ahead 3-0. 
  • Tobin Chambers would take over and score the next three goals, two of them being man down goals, putting the Shorewomen ahead, 6-0. Marywood scored twice before the end of the period, making the score 6-2 after the inaugural quarter.
  • The first half of the second quarter saw Washington College score six goals and give up two, extending their lead, 12-4. 
  • The Shorewomen offense scored four more times before the intermission, with Salvatierra hitting two of them to make the score 16-4.   
  • The team started the second half back where they left off, scoring three straight goals after halftime. Two of the three goals came by way of Wilson. 
  • Salvatierra and Braswell each scored again before the end of the period, with Marywood also scoring twice. After three, the Shorewomen remained on top 20-5. 
  • Chambers would score two of the four Washington College goals in the fourth quarter, with Braswell and Ansley Howell each scoring man up goals. The Shorewomen gave up two late goals, but prevailed 24-7.

  • Washington College's 24 goals tied a program best for goals in a single game. 
  • Nine free position goals, seven up goals, and four down goals were all single game program bests.
