Shorewomen Rally to Nip Sea Gulls, 4-3

Sperandei Completes Comeback Win with Victory at Fifth Singles

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College won the final two singles matches to register a 4-3 comeback win over visiting Salisbury on Thursday inside the Johnson Fitness Center in non-conference women's tennis action.

Doubles
- The Sea Gulls took two of the three doubles matches to net the doubles point. First doubles concluded first as Salisbury came away with a 6-1 win over the Shorewomen's Eva Kading and Soleil Namunyola. Third doubles was next to finish and Washington's tandem of Sofia Sperandei and Jess Wilde came away with a 6-2 result to tie doubles at a win each. Second doubles was tied 5-5 before the Sea Gulls won the final two points to land the guests the doubles point in a 7-5 decision versus WC's Juanita Arbelaez and Gaby Coutts.

Singles
- Third singles was the first to finish as Namunyola got WC its first point in a 6-2, 6-3 sweep, to tie the match at 1-1.
- Salisbury took a 2-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 result versus Isabella Sorhegui at two singles.
- Kading leveled the match at 2-2 with a pair of 6-4 victories at No. 4.
- In first singles, Salisbury's Gibelle Beaujon, ranked 19th in the Atlantic South, bested Arbelaez, 6-4, 6-4, that gave the Sea Gulls a 3-2 lead.
- Sixth singles went the way of the Shorewomen as Samy Fawzi Sanchez picked up a 7-5, 6-3 win to level the match at 3-3 and it would come down to fifth singles.
- Sperandei dropped the first set to the visitors, 6-3, before taking the second set 6-4 to set up the winner-take-all third set. Tied at 4-4 in the third, Sperandei would win the final two points to take home the three-set triumph and give Washington the victory.

Notes
- The Shorewomen are now 6-5 on the season, while the Sea Gulls, ranked 10th in the Atlantic South Region, slip to 9-3.
