CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College Athletics announces that five new members will be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame. The 2023 class includes John Evans '04 (Men's Swimming), Carl Horrocks '06 (Sailing), Ryan Normoyle '12 (Baseball), Jonathan Webb '06 (Men's Basketball) and Sarah Feyerherm (Field Hockey head coach). The group will be officially inducted during a ceremony on campus in October.
John Evans left Washington College as one of the most decorated swimmers in program history. In his first season, Evans won three Centennial Conference Gold medals with top finishes in the 200 and 400-yard individual medley and a top finish in the 200-yard breaststroke that earned All-American honors. Evans continued his success throughout his time at Washington College, finishing his career with six Centennial gold medals, two silver medals and program record times in the 200-yard breaststroke (now second), the 400-yard individual medley (now third) and the 1000-yard freestyle (now fifth). Evans also racked up the accolades outside of the pool by earning Scholar All-American honors in 2001 and two Scholar All-American honorable mentions in 2002 and 2004. Evans was also awarded the 2004 Alfred Reddish Award.
Carl Horrocks is one of the best skippers Washington College sailing has ever had. A two-time All-MAISA skipper and three-time team MVP, Horrocks was part of the group that took Washington to a program-high #2 in the national rankings. He finished with 21 top-five finishes at dinghy regattas, 13 A Division skipper finishes (second most in program history) and four first-place divisional finishes. Horrocks was the first sailor in school history to win a single-handed regatta and also was the recipient of the 2006 Thomas Reeder Spedden Award.
Ryan Normoyle was the catalyst for the Shoremen baseball program in the early 2010s. After an impressive campaign in 2009, Normoyle improved to become one of the best hitters in the Centennial Conference. A .392 batting average in 2010 garnered second team All-Conference honors. In 2011, Normoyle led the conference in hitting with a .394 average and earned second team All-Conference again to go along with an ABCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region third team spot. In 2012, Normoyle led the Shoremen on a campaign that ended in the Centennial Conference Championship. He it .403 on the season was named first-team All-Conference, second team ABCA All-Region and third team All-Region by D3Baseball.com to go along with being named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year. He would also share the 2012 Washington College male Senior Athletic Award. Normoyle still holds school records in hits (208), Doubles (54), at-bats (534), runs (138), RBI (139), total bases (341), stolen bases (94) and field assists (352). He also holds single-season School Records in at-bats (149-tied), runs (46), hits (60), triples (6-tied), total bases (97), stolen bases (40).
Jonathan Webb left the Shoremen Basketball program as one of the best scorers in school history, racking up up 1,571 points in 99 career games played. Those numbers land Webb at fourth in team history. Webb earned two Centennial Conference honorable mention selections before earning a second team nod in 2006. He was awarded the team MVP in both 2005 and 2006 as well as the Eliason Award in 2006. Webb is one of only six players in program history to pass 1,500 career points.
Sarah Feyerherm was named the Washington College head field hockey coach before the 1993 season. In 1996, Feyerherm led the program to a 13-5 record and a first NCAA Tournament appearance. The Shorewomen would go one step further in 1997 by winning the Centennial Conference and earning another selection to the NCAA Tournament. The program continued to compete for conference titles until Feyerherm left the program in 2002. In total, Washington finished with a 119-73-2 record under Feyerherm with the programs only Conference title and NCAA Tournament appearances coming under her leadership. Feyerherm has served Washington College in an administrative role since stepping away from the field hockey program in 2002. In 2016, Feyerherm was named to her current post at the College, Vice President for Student Affairs.
