Jacob Halem was named the assistant coach for Shoremen and Shorewomen Swimming in July 2023.

In his two seasons with the program, he has seen the Shoremen earn six medals (two gold and four bronze) at the Centennial Conference Championships and four swimmers earn All-Centennial honors. On the women’s side, he helped Washington achieve its most dual meet wins since 2008-09 in 2024-25 with a 10-4 mark and first winning season since 2017-18.

Prior to Washington, Halem, a Clarksburg, Maryland native, spent a year at Miami-Ohio after swimming at York College where he graduated with a degree in Sport Management.

During his time at York College, Jake was Second Team All-Conference five times and won the 100-yard freestyle at the 2021 MAC Conference meet and was part of the winning 200 medley relay. Coach Halem etched his name on the York College Natatorium record board in the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 100 individual medley, 100 free and 100 butterfly. Halem is also in the record books, as a Spartan, in the 100 individual medley and 100 fly.

Before college, Halem swam for RMSC (Rockville-Montgomery Swim Club) as an age-group and high school swimmer.
