Michael Herman

Michael Herman was named assistant coach of the Washington College men's and women's tennis programs on February 1, 2021. He recently was named acting head coach after the departure of Oliver Reynolds.

A four-year letter winner on the men's tennis team at Goucher College, Herman helped Goucher to three-straight Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Championship titles and left Goucher seventh in program history in doubles wins (44) and 11th in singles wins (41).

"I have had the opportunity to watch Michael grow as a player and individual coaching against him the past three years," stated Reynolds at the time of his hiring. "He has always showed a high level of maturity on and off the court. I am excited to have him join us here at Washington College and he'll bring so much to our program. He comes from a family with a very extensive tennis background, which is going to help him develop players on court. He is an extremely motivated individual as well, so I look forward to working with him on the recruiting side of things and see what he is able to accomplish."

The Prague, Czech Republic native, was named the 2017 Co-Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and earned all-conference second-team honors for singles and doubles. He was the recipient of the Goucher Athletics Departmental Neumann Award in 2020.

"Diversity has always been high on my list of what I want to see with both programs," Reynolds added. With his background of growing up in Prague, and speaking four languages, Michael will bring a lot of culture to this program."

Herman performed a marketing internship and was a tennis instructor at the Junior Tennis Championship Center in College Park, Maryland. He utilized recruiting software to research tennis prospects and designed and facilitated tennis lessons for students of all ages.
