Washington College

Doug Pfaff, a 2010 graduate of Washington College, serves as the College's trap and skeet head coach and helped guide the team's transition from club to varsity status. In the program's first season as a full varsity sport, WCTS finished 16th of 27 team in Division 3 at the ACUI Collegeiate Clay Targets Championships.

In 2021-2022, Pfaff led the squad to their best-ever performance at the ACUI East Coast Conference Championships. The team won the championship in Team Skeet, Doubles Skeet and Doubles Trap while picking up the runner-up trophy in Team Trap and Super Sporting.Washington College finished second to Liberty in the overall (HOA) event and also set another team skeet record improving from 481(GMU Invite) to a 485 total.

Pfaff was a member of the team when it began to move from a small club to a nationally-competitive team. Pfaff began his shooting career at age nine like most, shooting clays off a backyard trap. Once in college, his competitive career began and, after graduation, he began shooting in ATA competitions and became an off-campus advisor to WCTS. Pfaff was asked by a group of students to coach the team in 2013 and began coaching at practices and took the team to its first ACUI Clay Targets National Championship in 2014. While Pfaff’s first love was trap shooting, he has grown to love all of the sports and has immersed himself in learning as much as possible about all disciplines of clay target shooting. His current focus is sporting clays and he has studied with Dan Carlisle and Diane Sorantino.
