Matt An begins his sixth year as the Director of Sports Medicine and third year as the Assistant Director of Compliance in 2024-25. 

Matt came to Washington College from Randolph-Macon College, where he served as an assistant athletic trainer until 2019. In that role, he worked primarily with the football, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s golf and men’s lacrosse teams. He also supervised and scheduled student work-study employees in the athletic training room and served as a clinical instructor for undergraduate athletic training students during their internships at Randolph-Macon.

Prior to his time at Randolph-Macon, Matt was named the inaugural head athletic trainer for the football program in 2013 under Chris Weinke at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. He worked primarily with the academy’s football team while working with numerous NFL combine athletes and NFL professionals. 

While obtaining his Master of Science in Human Development and Leadership at Murray State University, Matt served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the Thoroughbred’s baseball team and also assisted with the Racer football team on game days from 2011-2013. 

During the summers of 2011 and 2012, Matt completed an internship with the Houston Texans during their training camp. 

Matt earned a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2011. While as an undergraduate student, Matt received clinical experience working with Miami’s baseball, women’s tennis, women’s field hockey, football, and women’s basketball teams. He also served as a Resident Assistant at Miami.

Matt is a certified American Red Cross instructor and a Certified American Red Cross Professional Rescuer. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Maryland Athletic Trainer’s Association. He is also Level 1 and Level 2 Dry Needling Certified. 

In his free time, you can find Matt playing slow pitch softball, fishing, golfing, and anything else outdoors. He resides in Chestertown with his wife, Laura and daughter, Caroline.
