Now in his 14th season at Washington College, Rob Nugent hasleft his mark on the storied history of Shoremen Basketball. In hissecond season, he guided a team with no regular players taller than6'3" to a Centennial Conference playoff berth in 2002-03. In2005-06, Nugent guided the Shoremen to their first conferenceplayoff win in six years and into the Centennial Conferencesemifinals. The 2008-09 Shoremen came within one game of qualifyingfor the Centennial Conference playoffs despite a roster featuring10 freshmen. The following season, Nugent guided the Shoremen to athird-place finish in the regular-season Centennial Conferencestandings and a spot in the Centennial Conference semifinals. Hewas named the Centennial Conference Coach of the Year following theseason. In 2011-12, Nugent's Shoremen returned to the CentennialConference Tournament as the fifth seed and reached thesemifinals.
Nugent came to the school after serving as the head coach of themen’s basketball and baseball teams at Southern VermontCollege from 1999-2001. As head coach at Southern Vermont, he wasresponsible for managing all aspects of the basketball and baseballprograms in the college's third year as a NCAA Division IIImember.
Before Southern Vermont, Nugent served as assistant basketballcoach at Williams College gaining experience under Head Coach HarrySheehy. During his tenure at Williams, his team twice participatedin the NCAA Division III Final Four, was recognized twice as theEastern College Athletic Conference Team of the Year, and was the1998-1999 New England Champions.
Nugent was also a standout baseball player. Nugent’sbaseball experience includes two seasons of playingsemi-professional baseball in Ohio, highlighted by a tryout withthe Cincinnati Reds organization. Nugent played center field andthird base as a semi-pro and for one fall season at MassachusettsCollege of Liberal Arts.
