Registers a Game-High 26 Digs in Loss
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Bryn Baker had
29 assists and 13 digs and Phylicia Lee recorded
14 kills and 13 digs to register double-doubles as visiting
Muhlenberg downed host Washington College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-21,
25-21), on Saturday afternoon in a Centennial Conference volleyball
match. The Mules are now 7-9 on the season and 2-2 in the
Centennial, while the Shorewomen are 9-10 and 0-4 respectively.
The Mules took control of the opening set with five
straight points to snap a 7-7 tie. The run was capped by a Lee
kill. After the Shorewomen cut it to 13-10, the Mules scored seven
of the next nine points to grab a 20-12 lead. A Jennifer
Seeba kill ended the first set to give the guests a 25-16
win.
The second set, the Mules jumped out to an 8-3 lead
to take control of the set. Muhlenberg extended its lead to as much
as eight points at 20-12. Washington trailed 23-16 before making
its final charge with five straight points to trim the Mules to
23-21. The Mules however won the final two points to win the set. A
ball handling error by the Shorewomen ended the second set and gave
Muhlenberg a 25-21 victory in the middle set.
In the third and final set, Muhlenberg used a 5-1
spurt to grab a 19-15 lead following an attack error by Washington.
Washington netted a 5-1 run of its own to even the set at 20-20
following a kill by sophomore outside hitter Lauren Feeny
(Upper Darby, PA/Villa Maria Academy). However, the Mules
had the last 5-1 run and a Lee kill ended the set and match.
For Muhlenberg, Christina
Cangelosi had a team-best 19 digs and Davi
Gordon racked up 10 digs in the win.
For Washington, freshman outside hitter
Jenny Lee (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) had a
match-best 26 digs to lead all participants. Three other Shorewomen
had double figures in digs: freshman defensive specialist
Rita Rivera (Plymouth Meeting,
PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) had 11 digs, while junior
defensive specialist Traci Daelemans (Tracys Landing,
MD/Southern) and freshman libero Kaitlin Rowan
(Damascus, MD/Damascus) both had 10 digs. Senior setter
Caitlin Ward (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity) passed out
26 assists.
The Shorewomen return to action on Wednesday,
October 14, when they travel to Ursinus for a 7:00 p.m. match in
Centennial Conference action.
