Box Score Nicholoff Makes Six Saves in Loss
GETTYSBURG, PA -- Host Gettysburg College got all
the offense it needed on a rebound goal with less than six minutes
to play as the 15th-ranked Bullets defeated visiting Washington
College, 1-0, in a Centennial Conference field hockey game this
afternoon in Gettysburg, PA. The Bullets improved to 10-3 overall
and 4-2 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell
to 6-7 and 3-3 with the loss.
Gettysburg held 4-1 advantages in both shots and
penalty corners in a scoreless first half. The Shorewomen continued
to hold off the Bullets in the second half as senior goalkeeper
Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail)
made back-to-back spectacular stops of Vanessa
Pabon's high-arcing flick with 10:38 left and
Lexie Hearn's one-on-one shot with 9:22 to go. The
Bullets finally broke through following their 12th penalty corner
of the half when Molly Latta scored with 5:46 to
play.
Gettysburg finished with a 17-2 advantage in
penalty corners and a 13-4 advantage in shots in the game.
Nicholoff made six saves in the loss, while sophomore defender
Brittany Palasik (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop
Spalding) made her team-leading fifth defensive save of
the season. Gettysburg goalkeeper Christina
Anderson made one save in the win for the Bullets.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a
4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford.
