Box Score Kane Scores First Career Goal in
Loss
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Haverford College built
a 3-0 halftime lead en route to a 5-1 Centennial Conference field
hockey win over host Washington College this afternoon on Kibler
Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Fords improved 6-8 overall and
4-3 in conference play with the win, while the loss dropped the
Shorewomen to 6-8 and 3-4.
Haverford took a quick lead when Margaret
Selsor scored on a rebound just 4:10 into the game. The
Fords made it 2-0 when Mary Hobbs scored off a
rebounding shot with 3:24 to play in the first and netted their
third goal of the first half when Roxanne Jaffe
fed Alex Waleko following a penalty corner with
1:11 on the clock.
The Fords built a 4-0 lead with 26:02 remaining in
the second half when Bridget Gibbons scored off an
assist from Selsor. Washington got on the board with 19:30
remaining in the game as freshman defender Hillary Kane
(Rhinebeck, NY/Millbrook School) fired in her first career
goal off a loose ball in front of the cage. Haverford tacked on its
fifth goal when Selsor scored off a rebound with 10:46 to play.
Haverford held a 24-7 advantage in shots and a 16-9
edge in penalty corners in the game. Senior goalkeeper
Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail)
made 16 saves in the loss for the Shorewomen, while junior defender
Sara Rutkowski (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser)
added a defensive save. Maggie Cronin made a pair
of saves in goal for the Fords, while Ariel Hern
recorded a defensive save.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a
1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against McDaniel.
