Box Score Nicholoff Tallies 11 Saves in Loss
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Amanda Pickard
scored the only goal of the game with 12:24 left in the second
overtime to give visiting McDaniel College a 1-0 Centennial
Conference field hockey win over host Washington College this
afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Green
Terror improved to 7-8 overall and 4-4 in conference play with the
win, while the Shorewomen fell to 6-9 and 3-5 with the loss.
Neither team scored in the first half as the Green
Terror held a 7-1 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in penalty
corners. The Shorewomen turned things around in the second half,
holding an 8-6 edge in shots and a 7-6 margin in corners.
Washington took the final five shots of regulation.
In the first overtime, Washington maintained a 9-4
advantage in shots and a 7-2 margin in corners. With 3:17 left in
the period, WC freshman midfielder Kristen Wille
(Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) made a defensive save on a
shot by McDaniel's Kaitlin Boerman. Washington
senior attack Kelsey Kemp (Stroudsburg,
PA/Stroudsburg) took the final shot, which was blocked,
with 1:32 left in the first extra session.
Pickard's goal came on McDaniel's second shot of
the second overtime as she fired the ball into the lower left
corner of the cage after receiving a pass from Katie
Jones.
Senior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff
(Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) tallied 11 saves in the
loss for Washington. Freshman defender Erin Lewns
(Fallston, MD/North Harford) added a defensive save for
the Shorewomen in the first half. McDaniel goalkeeper
Stephanie Thomson made six saves in the shutout.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a
7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at nationally-ranked Ursinus.
