Gerhart and Glasser Record Two Individual
Firsts Each
BRYN MAWR, PA - Senior Kathy Gerhart
(Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) each junior
Rachel Glasser (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook)
each won two individual events as visiting Washington College
rolled past host Bryn Mawr, 145-59, in a Centennial Conference
women's swim meet this afternoon. The meet was the season opener
for both teams.
Gerhart won the 200 freestyle in 2:00.74 to become
Washington's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in that event. She also
won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.49. Glasser finished first in the
1000 freestyle in 10:42.95, her best time in that event since her
freshman season, and in the 100 freestyle in 56.17.
Sophomore Jenna Moore (Catonsville,
MD/Mount de Sales) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.90 and
was second in the 50 freestyle in 26.16. Senior Amy Smith
(Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) captured the 100
backstroke in 1:05.98, while freshman Sarah Sykes (Haworth,
NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest) touched the wall first in the
500 freestyle in 5:27.24. Sophomore Mary Stroman (Bala
Cynwyd, PA/Friends Central) was second in the 200
freestyle in 2:05.74, while freshman Melanie Craig
(Newtown, PA/Council Rock) was second in the 100
breaststroke in 1:12.81 to become the Shorewomen's 10th-fastest
swimmer ever in that event.
The Shorewomen also won both relay events. Freshman
Darcy Zink (Baltimore, MD/Towson), Craig, Gerhart,
and Moore won the 200 medley relay in 1:54.97. Sophomore
Morgan Phillips (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle),
Stroman, Sykes, and Glasser won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:51.85.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a
1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Gettysburg.
