Nicholoff Makes Seven Saves in Loss

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Jess Kasza scored the only goal of the game with 1:11 remaining to lift visiting Muhlenberg College to a 1-0 win over host Washington College in a Centennial Conference field hockey game this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Mules improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 2-3 and 0-1.

Washington recorded five of the first six shots of the game, but the Mules got off five shots in the last 3:09 of the first half, which ended with no score for either team.

Muhlenberg took three early shots in the first half as well, but senior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) turned all three away for the Shorewomen. Washington controlled most of the possession during the rest of the second half, but the Mules took advantage of a late penalty corner when Kasza scored off an assist from Tara Cohn.

Kristen Dronenburg made six saves for Muhlenberg, while Nicholoff finished with seven for the Shorewomen. Kasza made a defensive save for the Mules, while from junior defender Sara Rutkowski (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) did the same for Washington.

Muhlenberg held a slim 13-12 advantage in shots in the game. Each team recorded nine penalty corners.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. home game against St. Mary's (MD).
