Box Score Nicholoff Makes Seven Saves in
Loss
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Jess Kasza
scored the only goal of the game with 1:11 remaining to lift
visiting Muhlenberg College to a 1-0 win over host Washington
College in a Centennial Conference field hockey game this afternoon
on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Mules improved to
3-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the win, while the
Shorewomen fell to 2-3 and 0-1.
Washington recorded five of the first six shots of
the game, but the Mules got off five shots in the last 3:09 of the
first half, which ended with no score for either team.
Muhlenberg took three early shots in the first half
as well, but senior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff
(Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) turned all three away
for the Shorewomen. Washington controlled most of the possession
during the rest of the second half, but the Mules took advantage of
a late penalty corner when Kasza scored off an assist from
Tara Cohn.
Kristen Dronenburg made six saves
for Muhlenberg, while Nicholoff finished with seven for the
Shorewomen. Kasza made a defensive save for the Mules, while from
junior defender Sara Rutkowski (Wernersville, PA/Conrad
Weiser) did the same for Washington.
Muhlenberg held a slim 13-12 advantage in shots in
the game. Each team recorded nine penalty corners.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a
7:00 p.m. home game against St. Mary's (MD).
