Box Score Ward Tallies 25 Assists, 18 Digs in
Loss
TOWSON, MD -- Host Goucher College won the final
three sets to post a 22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-16, non-conference
volleyball win over visiting Washington College tonight inside the
Decker Sports & Recreation Center. The Gophers improved to 7-4
with the win, while the Shorewomen fell to 7-5 with the loss.
The Gophers held a 19-18 lead late in the first set
before the Shorewomen scored seven of the final 10 points to take
the set, 25-22. The final point of the set came on a Goucher
service error. Goucher never trailed in the second set, winning it,
25-18, on a kill by Kasey Quinn. Washington used a
12-4 in the middle of set three to take control and held a 22-18
lead in the set before the Gophers scored the final seven points,
capped off by an ace by Rebecca Schaefer to post a
25-22 set win. Goucher cruised in the fourth set, building 16-6
lead en route to the 25-16 win.
Senior setter Caitlin Ward (Wantagh,
NY/Holy Trinity) tallied 25 assists and 18 digs for the
Shorewomen. Freshman middle hitter Jenny Lee (Wilmington,
DE/Mount Pleasant) led all WC hitters with 10 kills to go
along with her 10 digs and two block assists. Sophomore outside
hitter Lauren Feeny (Upper Darby, PA/Villa Maria
Academy) tacked on eight kills, while freshman libero
Kaitlin Rowan (Damascus, MD/Damascus) served three
aces and tallied 16 digs.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday when they
host Stevenson and Albright in the Penny Fall Classic beginning at
11:00 a.m.
