Box Score Grier Tallies Seven Saves for WC
SWARTHMORE, PA -- Host 20th-ranked Swarthmore
College scored three goals in the first half and went on to a 4-0
victory over visiting Washington College in a Centennial Conference
women's soccer match on Tuesday evening on Clothier Field. The
Garnet are now 8-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play with the win,
while the Shorewomen fell to 5-3-1 and 1-2 with the loss.
Swarthmore got onto the board exactly eight minutes
into the match when Megan Colombo put the hosts up
1-0 with Kirsten Peterson and Taylor
Rhodes both picking up assists on Colombo's goal. Rhodes
made it 2-0 when she scored on a breakaway after receiving the pass
from Julia Luongo at 10:54. Rhodes would be
involved in the third goal as she set up Hannah
Deming's tally to put the Garnet up 3-0 at the 16:21
mark. The Garnet would take a 3-0 lead into intermission and took
all 13 shots in the first 45 minutes.
Columbo netted her second goal of the night at
48:50 with Alyssa Bowie recording the assist for
the only goal of the second half and capped the scoring.
For Washington, senior goalkeeper Caroline
Grier (Kennett Square, PA/Sanford School (DE) had seven
saves in the second half, while sophomore goalkeeper Tori
Ripple (Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) turned away six shots
in the first half for the Shorewomen. Swarthmore's Marie
Mutryn recorded a shutout for the hosts in goal.
Swarthmore held a 35-2 advantage in shots in the
match and recorded all 11 corner kicks in the contest.
The Shorewomen return to action on October 8 with a
4:30 p.m. non-conference match at Cabrini.
