Box Score Trees, Rosato Score Goals in Loss
NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- Fourteenth-ranked host
Christopher Newport scored three unanswered goals to open the
second half en route to a 5-2 win over visiting Washington College
in non-conference field hockey action this afternoon in Newport
News, VA. The Captains improved to 2-0 with the win, while the
Shorewomen fell to 1-2 with the loss.
Kim Tomlin opened the scoring for
Christopher Newport, firing in a goal off an assist from
Kylie Cale with 22:39 remaining in the first half.
Tomlin then assisted on a goal by Annie Gehring
with 14:32 on the clock to make it 2-0. Washington got on the board
when sophomore attack Emily Trees (Kensington, MD/Connelly
School of the Holy Child) scored off an assist by freshman
attack Gabby Tarbert (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton
Wright) with 8:25 to play in the first half.
Kelsey Rigby opened the Captains'
second-half surge with a goal with 23:22 remaining and
Caitlin Cahill followed with a goal off a Cale
assist at 14:40. Alexandra Gauthier made it 5-1
with a goal off a Gehring assist with 3:52 remaining. The
Shorewomen got their second goal of the game when junior attack
Danielle Rosato (Narvon, PA/Pequea Valley) scored
her fourth goal in three games this season with 73 seconds to play
in the contest. Senior attack Kelly Tancredi (Wallingford,
PA/Strath Haven) assisted on Rosato's goal.
Christopher Newport held an 18-9 advantage in shots
in the game. Emma Stout made five saves for the
Captains, while senior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff
(Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail) made 10 stops for the
Shorewomen.
The Shorewomen return to action one week from today
with their Centennial Conference and home opener, a 2:00 p.m. game
against Bryn Mawr.
