Box Score Chambers Scores 17 in Loss for WC
CHESTERTOWN, MD – Andrew
Powers scored 30 points and brought down 14 rebounds to
lead visiting Gettysburg College to an 82-54 Centennial Conference
men's basketball victory over host Washington College this
afternoon inside Cain Athletic Center. The Bullets improved to 6-5
overall and 4-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen
fell to 4-5 and 2-3 with the loss.
Gettysburg shot 65% from the field in the first
half to build a 38-27 lead at the intermission. The Bullets
opened the second half by outscoring the Shoremen, 26-12, over the
first 9:29 to up the margin to 65-39 following a pair of free
throws by Powers with 10:31 to play. Gettysburg's largest lead of
the game came when Andrew Bohan made a three-point
with 41 seconds to go to give the Bullets a 30-point cushion at
82-52.
The Bullets shot 59% from the field in the second
half to finish at 62.2% (28-of-45) for the game. Gettysburg was
also 6-for-10 from three-point range and 20-of-22 at the free-throw
line.
Powers led Gettysburg's efficient offense with a
10-for-16 performance from the field and a 10-of-11 mark at the
charity stripe. Brendan Trelease scored 14 points
on just six field goal attempts, going 5-for-6 overall and a
perfect 4-for-4 from long range. Kevin Kennedy
added 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting, while Brendan
Hager dished out a game-best six assists. As a group, the
five Bullet starters, which also included Alex
Zurn, shot 23-of-33 from the field.
Senior guard/forward Andrew Chambers
(Williamsport, MD/St. Maria Goretti) paced the Shoremen
with 15 points and seven rebounds in the loss. Sophomore guard
Doug Holcombe (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) added a
career-high 10 points.
The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with an 8:00
p.m. Centennial Conference game at Dickinson.
