Box Score WESTMINSTER, MD -- Host McDaniel College came back
after dropping the first set to post a 22-25, 26-24, 25-17, 25-23,
Centennial Conference volleyball victory over visiting Washington
College this afternoon in Westminster, MD.
McDaniel (3-18, 2-6) held a 15-10 lead in the first
set before the Shorewomen (10-17, 2-6) went on a 9-3 run to take a
19-18 lead. The Green Terror rebounded to take a 22-20 lead, but
the Shorewomen scored the final five points of the set to take a
1-0 lead in the match. The Green Terror scored the last four points
of the second set to even the match at one set a piece. McDaniel
scored 10 of the first 13 points of the third set and never looked
back en route to an eight-point set win. In the fourth set,
McDaniel used a 7-1 run to take a 15-13 lead. The Green Terror held
off a late really in the fourth set, leading 24-18 before
surrendering five straight points as the Shorewomen closed within
two. A Washington service error ended the match.
Kristen Nuckles had a triple-double
in the win for McDaniel, finishing with 10 kills, 23 assists, and
17 digs. Anne McShea added a match-best 19 kills,
while Sarah Byron tallied 23 digs and
Katie Ferguson registered 21 digs and four
aces.
Senior middle hitter Maria Whitman
(Galesville, MD/Southern) pounded down a career-best 15
kills in the loss for the Shorewomen. Sophomore outside
hitter Jenny Lee (Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant)
added 12 kills and 18 digs, while sophomore libero Rita
Rivera (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) scooped
out 23 digs and junior outside hitter Alyssa Forget (River
Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) recorded 13 kills. Freshman
setter Lauren White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown)
had 41 assists and 13 digs for Washington.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00
p.m. Centennial Conference match at Bryn Mawr.
