BRYN MAWR, PA -- Host Bryn Mawr College scored three
times in the second half to post a 3-2 Centennial Conference
women's soccer victory over visiting Washington College this
afternoon in Bryn Mawr, PA.
Washington junior defender/midfielder
Jennifer Kiarsis (Rye, NY/Canterbury School [CT])
broke a scoreless tie when she dribbled past multiple defenders and
chipped in a shot over Bryn Mawr goalkeeper Rebecca
Joseph and off a defender from 15 yards out at
36:27.
Bryn Mawr (4-12, 1-9) tied things up at the 50:27
mark when Lizzie Robinson scored off an assist in
the box from Kathi Seto. The Shorewomen (4-10-1,
0-9 Centennial) took the lead at 80:08 when senior midfielder
Katie Weida (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Country Day)
booted in a rebound from a yard out after a shot by sophomore
defender Gabby Antalffy (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows
Point) went off the crossbar, but the Owls tied it up 38
seconds later when Karina Siu scored on a free
kick.
Bryn Mawr scored the game-winner when Sarah
Matteson headed in a corner kick from Jilly
Forde at 83:01. Washington had a chance to even the score
in the 86th minute but a shot by junior defender Corinne
Welker (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) went off the crossbar and
a rebound shot by Kiarsis went over the goal. The Shorewomen's
final shot came at 88:14, but Joseph stopped the attempt by
freshman defender Paige Butler (Potomac, MD/Winston
Churchill).
Joseph finished with eight saves in the win for the
Owls, while junior goalkeeper Tori Ripple (Baltimore,
MD/John Carroll) made five in the loss for Washington.
Washington held a 19-11 advantage in shots in the game.
The Shorewomen close out their season Saturday with a
4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Dickinson.
