Box Score 2 Washington College Sweep Wesley, Fall to
Lancaster Bible in Five Sets
DOVER, DE - The Washington College volleyball team
split a pair of matches at a non-conference tri-match hosted by
Wesley College today in Dover, DE. The Shorewomen (8-14)
defeated Wesley in their first match, 25-19, 25-16, 25-21, but fell
to Lancaster Bible, 14-25, 25-22, 22-25, 26-24, 15-3, in their
second match.
Against Wesley, the Shorewomen closed out the first
set by scoring seven of the final eight points. In the second set,
Washington finished by scoring four of the final six points. The
Shorewomen held a 16-10 lead in the third set before Wesley ran off
four straight points to narrow the margin. The Wolverines were able
to cut the lead to one point four times later in the set, but the
Shorewomen finished the match off with the final three
points.
Washington served 18 aces against Wesley as senior
middle hitter Maria
Whitman (Galesville, MD/Southern) led the way with
four. Junior outside hitter Alyssa
Forget (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) had a
match-high 10 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Jenny Lee
(Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) added seven. Freshman
setter Lauren
White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) tallied 23 assists
and was one of four Shorewomen to serve three aces; the others were
sophomore defensive specialist Kaitlin
Rowan (Damascus, MD/Damascus), senior defensive
specialist Traci
Daelemans (Tracys Landing, MD/Southern), and sophomore
libero Rita Rivera
(Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh).
Lindsay Dimozio and Kristen
Roberts each had five kills for Wesley, while
Carle Ax tallied four kills, 14 assists, and three
aces.
Against Lancaster Bible, the Shorewomen scored 10 of
the first 11 points to cruise to a 25-14 win in the opening set.
Washington held a 16-13 lead in the second set before a 10-4 run
gave the Chargers a 23-20 advantage. Lancaster Bible went on
to win the second set, 25-22. In the third set, Washington overcame
an early 10-5 deficit to post a 25-22 win. The Shorewomen held a
24-22 lead in the fourth set before Lancaster Bible scored the last
four points to even the match. The Chargers then cruised to a 15-3
win in the fifth set to get the win.
Lauren Heliger led the Chargers with
17 kills and 19 digs, while two of her teammates recorded
triple-doubles. Hailee Growden had 12 kills, 16
digs, and 22 assists, while Peggy Compton tallied
10 kills, 17 digs, and 20 assists.
Lee had 11 kills and 10 digs for the Shorewomen,
while Whitman added 10 kills. White added 35 assists and 22 digs,
while Rivera scooped out 20 digs and Daelemans notched 18 digs.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday at
Muhlenberg College. They will play the host school in a
Centennial Conference match at 12:00 p.m. followed by a
neutral-site non-conference match against Scranton at 2:00 p.m.
