Box Score Breslin Scores 23 Points, Named to All-Tournament Team
OWINGS MILLS, MD -- Junior guard Kevin Breslin (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti) scored 23 points to lead the Washington College men's basketball team to its first win of the season as the Shoremen defeated Goucher, 71-60, in the Pride of Maryland seventh-place game this afternoon at Stevenson University. Breslin was named to the All-Tournament team and finished three points shy of the tournament scoring record over three games.
The Shoremen (1-3) raced out to a 10-0 lead in the game and held a 40-32 lead at the intermission. The lead grew to as many as 17 points in the second half.
Breslin totaled 75 points in the tournament. The tournament record for points by a single player was set by Camontae Griffin, who scored 78 points in three games for St. Mary's last season. Breslin shot 9-for-14 from the field, including 2-of-2 from long range, and 3-of-4 at the charity stripe. He also dished out a game-high and career-high seven assists and grabbed six rebounds.
Junior forward Adam Naymick (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) added 12 points, four steals, and seven boards for the Shoremen, while junior guard Sal Schittino (Ellicott City, MD/Loyola Blakefield) had 10 points.
The Shoremen shot 66% from the field in the first half and 55% for the game. The Shoremen also connected on eight of their 15 three-point attempts in the game,
Trae Lindsay and Kyle Gladden each scored 10 points to lead the Gophers (0-3) in the loss. Goucher shot 38% from the field and 2-for-12 from three-point range.
The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with their Centennial Conference opener - an 8:00 p.m. game at nationally-ranked Franklin & Marshall.
