Craig Wins Pair of Individual
Events
WESTMINSTER, MD - Freshman Melanie Craig
(Newtown, PA/Council Rock) won two individual events as
the Washington College women's swim team posted a 64-30 win over
host McDaniel College in a Centennial Conference dual meet tonight
in Westminster, MD. The Shorewomen improved to 8-2 overall and 4-2
in conference meets with the win.
Craig won the 100 butterfly in 1:05.48 and the 200
freestyle in 2:10.54. Sophomore Mary Stroman (Bala Cynwyd,
PA/Friends Central) won the 50 freestyle in 26.21 and was
second in the 500 freestyle in 5:45.94. Junior Rachel
Glasser (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) swam a Washington
College season-best 2:15.99 to win the 200 individual medley and
become the school's sixth fastest swimmer ever in that event.
Freshman Emma Jackovitz (Bel Air, MD/Bel
Air) won the 1000 freestyle in 11:45.01, sophomore
Jenna Moore (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales)
captured the 100 freestyle in 58.97, sophomore Morgan
Phillips (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) took the 100
backstroke in 1:05.21, and senior Amy Smith (Phoenixville,
PA/Phoenixville Area) was first in the 500 freestyle in
5:39.90.
Smith, Moore, Glasser, and sophomore Cassie
Peart (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) won the 200 medley
relay in 1:58.75. Sophomore Ellen Liebenow (Sellersville,
PA/Pennridge), sophomore Laura Risell
(Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley), freshman
Darcy Zink (Baltimore, MD/Towson), and freshman
Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest)
posted the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay, swimming a
1:47.98 as an exhibition entry.
Freshman Alix Batesko (Mountain Lakes,
NJ/Mountain Lakes) added a second-place finish in the 100
butterfly in 1:05.98, while sophomore Kelly Dunbar
(Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) was second in the 200
breaststroke in 2:40.01.
The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with their
final dual meet of the season, a 6:30 p.m. Centennial Conference
home meet against Swarthmore.
