Glasser, Moore Win Two Individual Events
Each
CHESTERTOWN, MD - Host Washington College defeated
visiting Swarthmore College, 120-84, in Centennial Conference
women's swimming tonight inside Casey Swim Center. The meet was the
final dual meet of the season for both teams. The Shorewomen finish
the dual meet season 9-2 overall and 5-2 in conference meets, while
the Garnet finish 4-6 and 2-5.
Junior Rachel Glasser (Silver Spring,
MD/Springbrook) and sophomore Jenna Moore
(Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) each won two
individual events for the Shorewomen. Moore took the 50 freestyle
in 25.53 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.18, while Glasser won the
1000 freestyle in 10:45.33 and the 500 freestyle in 5:21.04.
Glasser was also second in the 200 butterfly in
2:11.60. Swarthmore's Anne Miller won that event
in 2:07.84, her time qualifying her for the 2010 NCAA Division III
Championships. Glasser qualified for the NCAA Championships in the
same event earlier this season.
Seniors Amy Smith (Phoenixville,
PA/Phoenixville Area) and Kathy Gerhart
(Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville Area) each won one
individual event for the Shorewomen as Smith took the 200
backstroke in 2:20.93 and Gerhart won the 100 freestyle in 57.52.
Smith, Moore, Gerhart, and sophomore Morgan
Phillips (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) won the 200
medley relay in 1:56.15, while Gerhart, freshman Darcy Zink
(Baltimore, MD/Towson), sophomore Laura Risell
(Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley), and sophomore
Mary Stroman (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Friends Central) won
the 200 freestyle relay in 1:44.84.
Stroman also was second in the 100 freestyle in
58.04, Zink was second in the 200 backstroke in 2:22.02, and
freshman Sarah Sykes (Haworth, NJ/Northern
Valley-Demarest) placed second in the 1000 freestyle in
11:18.69.
The Shorewomen return to action February 19th-21st
at the Centennial Conference Championships, hosted by Franklin
& Marshall.
