Box Score Parreco Tallies First Collegiate Point For
Shorewomen
ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – Lauriann Parker
scored the game winning goal with 4:21 left in the first overtime
period to lift host St. Mary's (MD) past visiting Washington
College, 2-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Seahawk Stadium in a
non-conference field hockey game. The Seahawks improve to 7-1
on the year, while the Shorewomen fell to 3-3. It is the
third straight year that the two teams have gone to overtime with
the Seahawks prevailing in the last two.
Parker was able to control a loose ball in the circle and
flicked it into the goal for the game-winning tally in the first
extra session.
In the first half, St. Mary's broke onto the scoreboard first
when Susan Smith scored on a feed from
Allie Skiest just 9:27 into the game off of a
penalty corner. Washington had two chances to try to tie it
in a seven second span, but Seahawks' goalie Lydia
Garcia denied senior attack Danielle
Rosato (Narvon, PA/Pequea Valley) both times.
The hosts took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Shorewomen tied the game 7:25 into the second half when
senior defender Sara
Rutkowski (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) leveled the
score at 1-1 when she finished off a reverse sweep pass from
freshman attack Angela
Parreco (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island). It was
Parreco's first career point. WC had a penalty corner with 48
seconds left in regulation, but they could not score on the
opportunity.
Washington outshot St. Mary's in the game by a 12-7 margin,
including eight of the nine in the second half. The
Shorewomen had 13 penalty corners in the contest, while the
Seahawks had just three.
Garcia made four saves in the win for St. Mary's, while senior
goalkeeper Shannon Davis
(Sykesville, MD/Liberty) tallied one save.
The Shorewomen return to action on Saturday afternoon with a
1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference contest against visiting Franklin
& Marshall.
