Box Score Smith Scores Goal for WAC
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Franklin & Marshall
topped host Washington College, 3-1, in a Centennial Conference
women's soccer game this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby,
Jr. Stadium.
F&M (4-2, 1-1 Centennial) held a 6-4 advantage in
shots in a scoreless first half, though the Shorewomen recorded
both of the period's corner kicks.
F&M's Selena Boro broke the
deadlock 50:58 when she headed in a ball sent by Carley
Nicholson. The Shorewomen (3-3-1, 0-2) evened the score at
58:00 when freshman forward/midfielder Heather
Smith (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) bent in a long,
tough-angle shot from wide right of the goal off an assist from
sophomore forward Ainsley
Boynton (Radnor, PA/Westtown School). The Diplomats
regained the lead when Nancy Epstein scored in
transition at 62:08. Shelby Cummins tacked on the
insurance goal on another transition play, finishing a pass ahead
from Nicholson at 78:36.
The Diplomats held a 17-10 advantage in shots in the
game, while the Shorewomen maintained a 3-1 edge in corner
kicks. F&M goalkeeper Hannah Barry made
three saves, while Washington junior goalkeeper Tori Ripple
(Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) made seven.
The Shorewomen are back in action Tuesday with a 7:00
p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Swarthmore.
