Box Score CHESTERTOWN, MD - Visiting Swarthmore College scored
one goal in each half to post a 2-0 Centennial Conference women's
soccer victory over host Washington College tonight on Kibler Field
at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.
Swarthmore (3-4-2, 2-1 CC) came out strong, taking
seven shots in the first 14:04 and scoring on the seventh as
Kirsten Peterson sent a ball ahead to
Megan Colombo for a goal in transition. The assist
for Peterson was the 14th of her career, tying the Swarthmore
school record. After the goal, the Washington defense
tightened up, allowing just two shots for the Garnet the rest of
the half.
The Shorewomen (3-4-1, 0-3) stayed within one goal
until Swarthmore tacked on an insurance goal by Aly
Passanante off an assist from Emily
Coleman at 81:30. Washington's final shot of the contest
came off the foot of freshman midfielder/forward Heather
Smith (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) at
82:34.
Junior goalkeeper Tori Ripple
(Baltimore, MD/John Carroll) made nine saves in the loss
for the Shorewomen, while Kaitlyn Sipiora made
four for the Garnet.
Swarthmore held a 21-6 advantage in shots and an 8-0
advantage in corner kicks in the game.
The Shorewomen return to action one week from today
with a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game at Penn State-Berks.
